Review: A Moment But Forever (2025) 念无双
Summary: The Wu Shuang Goddess named Ji Tan Yin ft Tang Yan comes to earth to retrieve the “left hand of god” from the Fox Clan priest Yuan Zhong ft Liu Xue Yi. She uncovers that his true nature is not as bloodthirsty as his reputation suggests and decides to stay on earth to watch over Yuan Zhong.
Platform: Youku, iQiyi
Episodes: 36
Airing Date: March 27, 2025
Final Rating 6.8/10 – An adequate fantasy romance drama where the themes of responsibilities of a goddess are its bright spot. Ji Tan Yin as a goddess is finally one that embodies a deity who loves all regardless of gender and race and has skills worthy of a god (crafting). The drama has a number of fun cameos and intriguing subplots but it suffers from subpar production/costumes and pacing issues.

Plot Summary
Thousands of years ago, demons and gods battled and the god Tai He used the magical item called the “Left Hand of God” created by the Wu Shuang Goddess Ji Tan Yin ft Tang Yan to seal away the darkness. However, the magical hand fell to the human realm and the god Tai He fell into deep slumber. From then on, gods disappeared from the world.
The Goddess is tasked by the heavens to retrieve the magical hand that is currently hosted by the fox clan’s mighty priest, Yuan Zhong ft Liu Xue Yi. Originally Wu Shuang, also called Ji Tan Yin, was going to simply kill Yuan Zhong for the hand but after learning about his suffering, decides to help Yuan Sheng remove his binds and allow him to live his life before returning with the hand. Together, they work together to bring peace to the land after the ghost clan decides to attack and unease permeates throughout the human and fox realms.

Initial Thoughts
After many years, this drama marks Tiffany Tang Yan’s return to a fantasy drama. When the drama was first in production, her fans were ecstatic for her to return to a fantasy romance since it was ultimately Chinese Paladin 3, a fantasy drama, that helped propel her to national fame. However, others were worried that she has aged out of the category. Alas, a challenge for women when men can be leads in these romance type dramas at a much higher age without as much ageism.
This drama has only done ok. It breached just 7000 on both iQiyi and Youku and struggled to overtake The Glory in a similar time slot. This drama is not as comedic as some other dramas and the romance is more of a slow burn than some of the more intense ones of shows that really want to market the CP. The themes of this show, I would say are probably more mature. It is not simply about love, hate, good and bad. There’s more nuance and I would say quite of bit of sadness that permeates throughout the show. Hence, perhaps why audiences have shied away.
That really is a pity because I quite liked the entire cast. I wish this was more popular than it was since I do think the cast did a good job with the material that they were given.

What I Liked - Spoilers Ahead
Finally a Goddess Worthy of the Title: Ji Tan Yin is the Wu Shuang Goddess. She originally was a human with exceptional crafting abilities. It is her crafting abilities that allow her to improve human kind and be invited to the sky as a god. Throughout the show, we see her skills in crafting and easily see why she IS a god. Not only is her crafting abilities out of this world, but her heart is equally as big. She has no prejudice against the people on earth, whether its the human clan, the fox clan or the fighting demon clan. She is kind to all of them. Plus, she uses kindness to try to change the people around her and give them the opportunity to thrive and survive.
Her romance with Yuan Zhong felt actually rather secondary compared to her capabilities as a goddess and broader love given to all people. For once, I saw this woman truly as a kind hearted god. Not just someone born with immense powers that had nothing better to do than to fall in love and fight a demon.
I did burst out laughing at the numerous times Ji Tan Yin died though. That really used her “god” abilities to the max.
Tang Hua and Zhi Dai’s subplot – we don’t get to see them too much in the show but I absolutely loved their story. Zhi Dai is a human who fell in love with a member of the Fox clan but the two have vastly varying lifespans. I absolutely applaud Zhi Dai for recognizing that she wasted her life pining for a man who did not even remember her. Their lifespans are so different that what was life changing for her as a human was nothing but a passing thought for Tang Hua. This is a rare instance where we do see how challenging this type of romance is. I applaud Zhi Dai for walking away when she realized he didn’t remember. This was such a heart wrenching secondary story line that I felt was much more impactful than even the main story line.
Intriguing subplots with interesting characters: While not all of the subplots worked for me and to be honest some of the episodes dragged, I thought enough of the subplots worked. I enjoyed the episodes with Mei Shan, a man who suffered the sky’s wrath every 49 days but could not become a deity because the latter to the sky was destroyed. Xie You, Ji Tan Yin’s teacher, stayed alive for hundreds of years because of his intense focus on solving a riddle to master crafting. this riddle Ji Tan Yin was able to solve and became a god but he could not. Qian Lin is a member of the fighting demon clan but is kind at heart and doesn’t want to fight on behalf of the clan, only see his mother.
Ultimately, I thought this drama shined in the broader lessons Ji Tan Yin and other members of the drama shared. I actually felt the trope of the demon was less interesting than these other themes.

What's Didn't Work
Pacing – The drama really suffered in this department. The first 3rd was helping Yuan Zhong escape from his shackles and then when he was free, the group set off to find Yuan Zhong’s 4 other talismans or Qi Ling. Except, I feel like they spent way too much time showing a moping and increasingly jealous Yuan Zhong in the first 2 stops. I wanted to see more of a story line with, for example, Xie You, Ji Tan Yin’s teacher, but we barely saw him. Same thing with Tang Hua and Zhi Dai’s story line. But a lot of the show was focused on Ji Tan Yin trying to placate Yuan Zhong and dragged the show down a bit. But then, the ending was rather rushed with the final fights. This could have been a 30 episode drama or even shorter.
Production value – Man, we’ve seen epic fights and amazing CGI from various fantasy dramas so this drama kinda stuck out like a sore thumb with its bland backgrounds and uninspired hairstyles. Come one, Tang Yan is such a beautiful woman. Can’t you give the intricate hairstyles you gave to Bai Lu to Tang Yan? Is it because it takes too long to do those hairstyles so the drama opted to take it easy?
